Know More About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the dissemination of powerful ideas. Originally launched as a four-day conference in California over 30 years ago, TED has expanded its mission through various initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences bring together leading global thinkers and innovators, each delivering talks of 18 minutes or less. Many of these presentations are made freely accessible on TED.com. Notable speakers have included figures such as Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan, and Daniel Kahneman.

The TED Conference is held annually each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which offers subtitles, interactive transcripts, and volunteer-driven translations; and TED-Ed, an educational platform. TED also awards the annual TED Prize, supporting individuals with bold visions for world change, and organizes TEDx events that empower local communities to host independent, TED-style events. Additionally, the TED Fellows program amplifies the impact of global innovators by supporting their transformative projects and initiatives.

TEDx is a program designed to embody the spirit of "ideas worth spreading" by organizing locally-driven, independently managed events that offer a TED-like experience. At TEDx events, a blend of TED Talk videos and live speakers foster meaningful discussions and connections. These events are branded as TEDx, where the "x" signifies that they are independently organized. While the TED Conference offers overarching guidance for the TEDx program, each event is self-organized and operates under specific rules and guidelines to maintain consistency and quality.

TEDx Oriental Institute of Science and Technology, held in 2023, embodied the spirit of "ideas worth spreading" through a locally organized event that resonated with our community. The event was an overwhelming success, quickly gaining popularity among students. Featuring engaging live speakers, it ignited thought-provoking discussions and created lasting connections. As an independently organized event, TEDx Oriental Institute allowed for a unique experience while staying true to the TED Conference’s guiding principles.
